The Project

Maintenance work on the A3 at Dennis Interchange and River Wey Ladymead bridge started on 5 Mach 2007 and took four weeks.

The work consisted of replacing the parapets on the northbound carriagway at the interchange and on the River Wey Ladymead Bridge.

Traffic Management

The work was necessary to maintain the safety and serviceability of the safety fence for road users. Six 6 overnight closures were used (half of which took place at the start and the remainder at the end of the work) to install and remove traffic management equipment. Drivers were required to follow the signed diversion route during these closures (please see diversion map).

For the safety of the travelling public and of contractors on site, the work required a temporary 50mph speed limit and narrow lanes on the northbound carriageway.  This was in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the duration of the work.  To meet the appropriate safety distances required for the work to be carried out, the works were carried out between the hours of 10.00pm and 5.00am, the northbound carriageway was reduced to a single lane between these times.

The Surrey Safety Camera Partnership provided enforcement of the 50 mph speed limit through the road works to ensure the safety of the on site workers and other road users.

The enforcement was highly visible with both conventional speed camera warning signing provided throughout the scheme and a vehicle-activated sign positioned in advance of the enforcement to remind drivers of the speed limit and to warn them of the enforcement.
