The Project
A major £5m scheme to strengthen and resurface the A47 Dereham Bypass near Dereham in Norfolk started on 11 April. The works took place between Ascot Gardens Subway and the Etling Green Junction on the dual carriageway section of the bypass. Work was completed in September 2007.
The road has been resurfaced with a low noise asphalt to reduce noise and provide an improved ride quality for drivers. Laybys and the drainage system have been upgraded, and safety fencing, road signs and carriageway markings improved. The South Green and Yaxham Road bridges have also been re-waterproofed and joints and parapets repaired. The maintenance work means that no further works, other than occasional resurfacing, should be needed for years to come.
