The Project

The M11 motorway is a major route that begins at the North Circular (Junction 4) in London and ends near Cambridge at Junction 14.  Between the M25 (Junction 6) and Stansted Airport (Junction 8) the M11 currently has three traffic lanes and a hard shoulder in each direction.

We have been investigating options to improve the M11 between the M25 and Stansted Airport and are consulting you on the options.  BAA have completed consulting you about it's Surface Access proposals to accompany an expanded Stansted Airport.

Public Consultation and Further Public Consultation

We held a Public Consultation on our proposals for the scheme in Spring 2007. Following feedback from this consultation we agreed to expand on the information given to you in the Spring 2007 consultation by providing information on the previously discounted options.  These options are now part of our proposals and should be seen as viable options.

We held Further Public Consultation on the previously discounted options for the M11 Junctions 6 to 8 Improvement between 24 September and 5 November 2007.

What Happens next?

Now the consultation is complete, when  we have considered all of the results, a Preferred Route will be announced by the Secretary of State for Transport. A summary of these results will be contained in the Scheme Assessment Report which is due to be published early next year. This will be followed by the publication of the Draft Orders.  This will give you another chance to comment on the proposals.  Depending on the nature and weight of the objections we receive to the draft orders, a Public Inquiry may be held.
