The Project
BAA has identified a variety of measures to reduce the growth in car use by air passengers and airport workers travelling to the expanded airport, including improvements to public transport. New junctions to M11 and A120 are needed, even with the reduction in growth.
We have been working closely with BAA to develop plans for the future improvements to the road access into an expanded Stansted Airport. New junctions are proposed on the M11 and A120.
Public Consultation
We held a Public Consultation on proposals for the scheme in Spring 2007. Following feedback from this consultation, we agreed to expand on the information given to you by holding a further public consultation for six weeks between 24 September and 5 November 2007. At this consultation we provided you with information on the previously discounted options. These options are now part of our proposals.
Preferred Route Announcement
The Preferred Route for the M11 and A120 was announced on 5 March 2008.
You can find out more on the Public Consultation and Preferred Route Announcement page. You can also the access the Preferred Route Announcement Leaflet from the Publications page.
A map of the Preferred Route is available on the Maps page. A summary of the results of the Public Consultation have been published in Section 7 of the Scheme Assessment Report.
Environmental Statement
The Environmental Statement was published on 10 March 2008. This is a very extensive, technical document so we have provided a summary, which can be found in the Non Technical Summary on the Publications page. You can also find details of where you can view a paper version of the full Statement under Notices from the Publications page.
You may view the whole Environmental Statement online. The viewing period has been extended by 2 months. Please note that this does involve multiple large files, with some material that may not view well online as it was designed for the paper report. View the full Environmental Statement.
Publication of Draft Orders
The draft orders were published on 27 March 2008. The objection period ended on 26 June 2008. The Notices can be viewed on the Publications Page.
Public Inquiry
A Notice has been published on 21 July 2008 giving advance warning that a Public Local Inquiry will be held into the Secretary of State for Transport's proposal for the Orders listed and into the objections which have been made in connection with these proposals. This Notice can be viewed on the Publications page.
The Inquiry will be concurrent with those for the other applications/orders relating to the proposal for a second runway at Stansted Airport. It is expected the Inquiry will open on 15 April 2009. A Pre-Inquiry Meeting, to inform the public of the Inspectors approach to the inquiry, is likely to take place on 10 November 2008.
Full details of timing for the Pre-Inquiry Meeting can be seen from the following link: http://www.planning-inspectorate.gov.uk/stanstedg2inquiry/index.htm.
