The Project
Starting on 5th March, and scheduled for completion in October 2007, we will be carrying out major works at the A5/M69 junction to improve safety and improve journey time reliability.
The highway works for the A5/M69 Signalisation scheme comprise of widening the approach roads including the exit slip roads from the M69 (with the construction of retaining walls), widening the circulatory carriageway and signalising the junction. In addition, work will include the provision of a balancing pond, installiation of new road signs and road markings, and provision of a combined footway/cycleway around the junction.
The highway works along the A5 from Sketchley Island to the Hinckley Knight Hotel (Stretton Bends) comprise of the provision of a footway/cycleway on the south side, and a footway on the north side of the carriageway. Work will also include the provision of two dedicated mobile speed camera hardstanding areas, installation of new signs and road markings, and the provision of a new pedestrian refuge.
Local impact and disturbance
- We will make every effort to avoid causing disturbance to local residents.
- We will take special care to avoid any unnecessary disturbance to animals and birds.
- We offer apologies for any inconvenience caused due to road closures.
Traffic Management
Traffic Management updates are available on the Traffic Management page, which can be found using the link in the navigation menu at the top right of this page. Please note that this information is not updated in real time. Please check Traffic England for the latest information and current traffic conditions.
At the A5 island we will do much of the work during off peak periods to avoid delays. There will be some overnight slip road closures.
When we are working on Stretton Bends, the A5 will be open for normal use between 6am and 8pm, Monday to Friday. We will carry out much of the work at night and some Saturdays and Sundays when we will need to close the A5 completely. During closures diversion routes will be in use which we will sign clearly.
