Facts and Frequently Asked Questions
Facts and Frequently Asked Questions
a) What would happen if we do nothing?
If we did nothing the subject section of the carriageway would show risk of further more significant movement resulting in the collapse of the road section.
b) Why do we need to ban HGV?
The site works, as embankment widening, gabion wall and soil nailing are programmed in advance starting from 31/07/2007 for 10 weeks. Traffic Management during the construction period is key in providing safe working areas and maintaining the integrity of the existing highway embankment. Due to horizontal alignment of carriageway at this section a 2 X 3m running lanes for passing HGVs would not provide a safe arrangement for the travelling public as well as work force. Therefore It is proposed that HGV movements be stopped both ways for the 10 week working period as mentioned above along with a 40mph speed limit. The HGVs during this period will be diverted on the strategic diversion routes as mentioned on section 6 Para. 2.
