Project

The A49 is a single carriageway which starts at Ross-on-Wye (M50 Junction 4 / A40) in the south and extends to Shrewsbury (A5) in the north. The scheme is located approximately 3 miles south of Church Stretton. The scheme is approximately 1 mile long with daily traffic flows in 2005 of 10,800 vehicles (two way) of which 12.0% are lorries. Works started on site on 17 September 2007 and was completed on 18 October 2007.

Problem

The existing road surface had showed signs of failure and extensive patching had already taken place in order to maintain a safe running surface.  These works restored the condition of the carriageway so that unplanned maintenance work is reduced and safety improved.

Solution

We removed 150mm of existing surfacing materials and replaced with 150mm of new material.
