Works Programme
Phase 1 August 2008 to September 2008
Overnight on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August during an 18 hour closure the new bridge deck will be lifted and transported 70 metres along the A1 to be lowered and installed on the new bridge supports. We will complete the new over bridge, link road and slip roads north of the existing roundabout. We will also complete improvement works on the northbound off-slip road to Racecourse Road. These works will be carried out under narrow lanes and some off-peak lane closures.
Phase 2 September 2008 to October 2008
We will construct the new northbound carriageway up to the existing roundabout and also tie-in the new northbound on and off-slip roads and the new southbound off-slip. This work will be carried out whilst the traffic is in contra-flow on the southbound carriageway. Traffic on the B1081 Old Great North Road to Stamford will still be able to use the A1 in both directions as normal except during the overnight closure to install the contra-flow system.
Phase 3 October 2008 to November 2008
We will complete the new structure.
Phase 4 November 2008 to December 2008
Construction of the new southbound A1 carriageway will be completed. Traffic will run in contra-flow on the A1 whilst these works are being completed. We will also complete works to verges and the central reservation under off peak lane closures. The improvement will be fully opened to traffic in December 2008.
