Construction Progress

A419 Blunsdon Bypass Construction Progress - February 2009

General

Over the last few weeks the weather has allowed us to make good progress.

Southbound Carriageway

The tie in to the north of the southbound carriageway has been finished and is now open to traffic in its final state.

Northbound Carriageway

The road surfacing and kerbing to the tie in of the northbound carriageway off slip near Turnpike Junction is complete, and works continue to the attenuation pond in this area.

Coldharbour Roundabout

Road surfacing where Coldharbour Junction meets Lady Lane Bridge has been completed, kerbs, road markings, verge fill and topsoil in this area continue. Other works due to be carried out during the next few weeks include the assembly of lighting columns.

Bus Turning Area

Verge fill and topsoil, edgings & tactiles are progressing well in this location and will carry on during the coming weeks.

Lady Lane link road

Anti dazzle fencing has been installed between the Lady Lane link road and the northbound dual carriageway.

Down grading to the old A419

Works have progressed well to the down grading of the old A419. Road markings have been put down near Chapel Farm Bridge, footpath surfacing has been laid and the majority of bunds have been top soiled, theses activities will continue during the next few weeks.

A419 Blunsdon Bypass - opened to traffic

The A419 Blunsdon Bypass was opened to traffic at the end of 2008 after just over 2 years of construction.  The opening has removed the congestion from the bottlenecks at Lady Lane Junction and Turnpike roundabout and removed through traffic from the existing trunk road through Blunsdon.  Other works have been carried out since the opening, mainly on the old section of trunk road, to convert the existing road into a single carriageway
