The Project

Safety work to temporarily close the gap in the central barrier between the London bound and coast bound carriageway of the A2 at Wootton in Kent  started on Monday 23 July and has recently been completed.

Drivers will see a temporary barrier, which will be made from orange and white plastic cones put in place on the central reservation. This will prevent traffic turning right from the A2 coastbound into Wootton Lane, and right from the A2 Londonbound into West Court Downs.

During this time, traffic will not be able to cross the A2 from either direction, and diversion routes will be in place. The Highways Agency will carry out traffic counts during the closure of the gap to assess the impact on traffic flows.

The diversions which will be fully signed in advance are as follows:

• Coastbound traffic wishing to turn into Wootton Lane will continue past Coxhill Junction to make a U-turn at the Lydden Hill junction with the B2060.
• Londonbound traffic wishing to turn into West Court Downs will continue to leave the A2 at A260 Canterbury Road junction and turn right on to the A260 to join the B2040 junction signposted A2 Dover.
• Road users leaving Wootton Lane travelling coastbound will turn left onto the A2 Londonbound and take the A260 Canterbury Road exit slip.  It will then turn right on to the A260 towards Canterbury then take the first right and follow directions for A2 Dover.
• Road users leaving West Court Downs travelling Londonbound will turn left onto Westcourt Lane then right at Shepherdswell onto Coxhill.  At the signalised junction it will be directed to turn right onto the A2 Londonbound.
