The Project
Staffordshire County Council commenced work on 21st October to provide a safe access off the A5 to their Kingswood Lakeside Employment Park near Norton Canes in Staffordshire. This involves work to the A5 trunk road itself which is being carried out with the agreement of the Highways Agency.
The work involves the improvement of the Washbrook Lane junction with the A5 and the installation of a new set of traffic signals. New street lighting will be provided on the A5 between Norton Lane and Gains Lane. The work will last for approximately 21 weeks.
Traffic Management
To allow the works to be carried out safely, the length of A5 dual carriageway west of Norton Canes will be coned down to a single lane in each direction with the gaps at Washbrook Lane and Norton Lane closed. U turns will also be banned at each end of the dual carriageway.
Signed diversion routes will be put into place and measures will be taken to divert wide loads around the works.
A 30mph speed limit will be enforced during the works.
Traffic Management Phases
Below is an outline of the traffic management arrangements for the remainder of the works.
Phase 5 - From Friday 25 January 2008 to Friday 7 March 2008
- A5 Eastbound & Westbound L1 & L2 (Alternate) closures through the dual carriageway section.
Phase 6 (Overnight Working) – From Monday 25 February 2008 to Friday 29 February 2008 (20:30hrs to 06:00hrs)
- A5 Eastbound & Westbound under temporary traffic signal control through the single carriageway section between Washbrook Lane and School Lane.
The new traffic signals are programmed to be operational by Friday 7 March 2008 when all of the traffic management and temporary signing will be removed and the carriageway will re-open fully to traffic under a new 50 mph limit.
