The Project

Bridge replacement works to the A404(M) Western Region Railway Bridge, between junctions 9a and 9b near Maidenhead will started in early September 2009 and will continue through until March 2011.

The existing bridge that carries the A404(M) over the Western Region Railway is in a deteriorating condition and requires complete replacement.

Work commenced on Monday 7 September 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in March 2011.   There will be two miles (3.2km) of traffic management along the A404(M) between junctions 9a and 9b.  There will be two lanes open in both directions during peak periods.

Throughout the scheme there will be occasional contraflow working and some overnight carriageway and slip road closures with fully signed diversions in place.   For the safety of road users and the workforce, there will be a 40mph speed restriction enforced with average speed cameras 24 hours a day throughout the scheme.

A free roadside vehicle recovery service will be available for any motorist who breaks down in the works area in order to minimise delays and disruption for road users as a result of breakdown.
