Original Proposal

The Highways Agency proposes to add an extra lane of motorway in both directions between Junctions 6 to 8 of the M11. The widened motorway would have 4 traffic lanes and a hard shoulder in each direction. The cost of the scheme is an estimated £698m.

For most of the route, the widening would be equal on both sides requiring a strip of land on each side of the existing motorway. At Epping Forest and for the stretch between Harlow and Sheering, all of the widening would be to the east. At both locations this would reduce the environment impact, particularly at Gernon Bushes, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

BAA and HA consulted the public through a series of exhibitions held between 9th March and 25th May 2007.  Leaflets were distributed in the area around the motorway and include a questionnaire to make your own views known on the specific points raised, and/or make your own statements using the space provided. The opportunity to comment on the scheme ran from 27th February until 5th June 2007.
