The Project
Resurfacing work on the A259 Monkbretton Bridge near Rye, East Sussex has been completed two weeks ahead of schedule, opening the bridge in time for the half term holidays.
The bridge is now open to all vehicle traffic. A temporary footbridge for pedestrians will remain in place while work on the underside of the bridge is completed.
Single lane running, aided by temporary traffic signals will be used overnight on Monday 22 October while the temporary footbridge is removed, and again on Wednesday 24 - Friday 26 October during off-peak times while painting work on the bridge is completed.
These works have been completed early due to good coordination between our contractors and the concrete structure of the bridge being in much better condition than anticipated. At all times throughout these works the Highways Agency has aimed to keep the amount of inconvenience caused to a minimum.
