What Happens Next

A study of the relative benefits of widening and hard shoulder running is currently underway, encompassing many sections of motorway. The M6 J11A-19 forms part of the wider study and once the results of the study are known ministers will decide whether development work on improvements to the M6 should continue to be progressed.

Assuming approval is given to the Agency, a set of detailed options will be developed to be taken to public consultation.  This would include public exhibitions and provide an opportunity for people to give their views on alternative options.  Following the public consultation a preferred scheme would be selected and this would be developed in greater detail leading to the publication of draft orders which would be expected to be considered at a Public Inquiry.

The programme is not fixed at this early stage and depends on what ministers decide about the outline business case. Future programme dates will be presented when firmer information becomes available.
