Heritage
Heritage
Within the Scheme Boundary, there is little potential for archaeological finds due to past intrusive land uses including the construction of the current motorway. The proposed widening would be carried out within the existing highway boundary so most construction activities would occur within previously disturbed land, although remains may have been preserved within embankments and less disturbed areas.
The Scheme may impact on buried archaeology in a number of vulnerable areas along the route. In addition a number of Listed Buildings, known archaeological sites and other heritage features may be affected by the increased visibility of the motorway and its furniture. However, there are no significant adverse effects on the setting of any Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas, Historic Parks and Gardens, or historic landscapes and no known resource of Very High Importance is physically affected by the Scheme.
Construction within the existing cutting at the Belhus cut has the potential to disturb Palaeolithic remains.
