The Project
The works provided a dedicated two lane exit from the M40 towards the M25 instead of the previous single lane. The link road carriageway from the M40 has also been widened to provide two lanes for the M25 southbound traffic and a single lane slip road for the M25 northbound traffic.
The gantry signs were also revised to suit the new alignment from the one mile advanced warning sign and road markings were also changed accordingly. Lighting has been improved and a new gantry was installed where the links to the M25 north and south diverge from each other.
As well as the widening work, maintenance work has been undertaken to repair and resurface the link road leading to the M25.
The completed scheme is expected to significantly reduce queuing on the eastbound approach to Junction 1a and reduce accidents in the queue as a result.
