The Project
Where
The scheme is located at the M42 Junction 6 NEC - A45 roundabout
When
Work started on the 10th December 2007 and was completed on the 6th March 2008
What did we do?
Design and construction of a highway improvement scheme (Phase 2) included:
Widening of the circulatory carriageway between the A45 eastbound entry and NEC Southway entry in order to provide more segregation between traffic bound for M42 north and traffic travelling towards A45 east and M42 south. Works also involved construction of new traffic signals and disassembling and re-building the safety barrier.
The eastbound merge slip road from the roundabout to the A45 east was widened to 2 lanes enabling the carriageway over the M42 north bridge to be marked so that the nearside and centre lanes could both be used by traffic to A45 east.
Yellow box junction markings will be added at the M42 southbound diverge slip road junction with the circulatory carriageway. Flap diversion signs were installed on the A45 eastbound showing the diversion route to Stonebridge Roundabout.
Why did we need to do this work?
These works are to compliment the previous phase 1 works carried out in 2006 by widening the road adjacent to the NEC to better separate the traffic and also widen the slip road onto the A45 eastbound into 2 lanes.
The traffic signals were improved last year at this location by incorporating the MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation) system. The traffic signals will continually optimise the green times to make the junction better able to cope with both daily and seasonal variations in traffic flow.
