Where was the project located?
This improvement project was located at A6 and A5111 Raynesway Park junction in Derbyshire.

Why was the scheme needed?
As part of the new Raynesway development, conditional planning permission was given by Derby City council in December 2007 for improving Raynesway Park Junction. This junction improvement has provide a new dual carriageway link between the A5111 Raynesway and the A6 Alvaston Bypass.

What work was carried out?
The junction improvement works started on 11 August 2009 and officially completed in August 2011. There were some remedial work after official completion which are now finished.

The works carried out involved:

  • Construction of a new two level junction
  • A roundabout to the north of the new dual carriageway link. This will provide access to a planned development
  • A roundabout controlled by traffic signals to the south of the link. This will connect to the existing A5111
  • A link road provided between the two roundabouts which includes a junction with Raynesway Park Drive

The existing junction with Curzon Lane was closed for safety reasons and a new link road has been provided to Curzon Lane from the new roundabout.

How did this benefit road users?
The benefits of these works include: improving the junction, providing access to the new Raynesway development and improving journey time by decreasing rush hour congestion.
