The Project
This major maintenance scheme is required because the carriageway has reached the end of its design life and needs resurfacing. Improvements to the safety barrier (road restraint) system will also be carried out to improve road safety.
The scheme is located in Leicestershire on the M69 around Junction 2 near to Hinckley and extends approximately 2.5km south of Junction 2 and 4.5km north of Junction 2.
The scheme is programmed to begin on the 8th February 2008 and is to be completed on the 25th April 2008 (11 weeks). The works will be carried out over 24hrs, 7 days a week.
Traffic Management
The scheme will affect all lanes of the north and southbound carriageways within the works area. The slip roads at Junction 2 will be closed during part of the scheme and at least one week advanced warning will be given. A signed diversion route will be in place.
The carriageway on which work is taking place will be closed and all traffic will run on the opposite carriageway under a contraflow arrangement, with two lanes in each direction. A 50mph speed restriction will be in place due to safety reasons and will be enforced by average speed cameras.
Drivers will experience slight delays due to the speed restriction and moderate delays due to the Junction 2 slip road closure diversion route.
