The Project

We have completed a resurfacing scheme on the A5 through Hockliffe, between the crossroads and the McDonalds restaurant.

Work started in early February 2008 and took just over 3 weeks to complete.

The old road required substantial repairs before the new surface could be laid and a new material was successfully trialled (Bardon Superflex).  At 90mm thick including a glass grid reinforcement, this material allowed a single layer reconstruction to the original road levels after each shift.  By using this method, the works could be completed during shorter daytime working hours and this helped avoid serious delays to traffic passing through Hockliffe during the works.

At the same time we took the opportunity to install bollards at the northern approach to the crossroads, to deter vehicles from mounting the kerb and 40mph speed limit roundels were provided on the road surface at the northern and southern entrances to the village.
