Frequently Asked Questions

Facts

  • Repair of nine concrete supports with traffic implications on Wigmore Lane
  • The main site access will be along Charlemont Road from its junction with Wigmore Lane.
  • A suitable pedestrian route will be maintained at all times during the works
  • Warning signs for the public informing them of the construction activities will be installed.

What do the cones do on this scheme?

They separate the works from the general public; protecting the public using Wigmore Lane and the workforce during the works.

Why do the concrete barriers and cones remain in place when no-one is working?

The concrete barriers and cones will remain in place during the works adjacent to Wigmore Lane to protect both the public and the workforce.  It is neither safe nor economic to change the traffic management too frequently.

There will be times during the project when workers will not be easily observed, e.g. when working out of site behind barriers or when working on the other areas of the site.

There will be times when works will be suspended, such as outside working hours, during bad weather and on public holidays but work will continue again as soon as possible.  During these times the public will see scaffold around the concrete support adjacement to Wigmore Lane.

Are the works being carried out 24/7?

To reduce the environmental impact on local residents (e.g. noise) and in the interest of safety, the works will not generally be carried out at night.

Work will take place at nightime when implementing and removing the traffic management on Wigmore Lane.  This is a less noisy operation.

What is the reason for the work, works have been carried out here before?

The previous concrete repair works were carried out on different parts of the structure.  It is more effective to repair only the parts of the structure which need repairing rather than the whole structure at once.

The work will maintain the structural integrity of the viaducts.

What would happen if you do not do this work?

The condition of the concrete structures would continue to deteriorate and this could have effects on the Motorway above.

Where can I get further information or give comments and feedback on the scheme?
