The Project
Where
These advance direction signs are located on the east and westbound approaches to Junction 3, near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire.
When
The works commenced mid February 2008 and was completed on 19 March 2008.
What are we doing?
These signs were being upgraded to ensure that all M50 advance direction sign faces will show relevant off-motorway destinations.
This work involved the replacement of existing sign faces and clearance of vegetation obscuring their visibility.
Why do we need to do this work?
Advance direction sign faces are being upgraded as part of the Highways Agency national strategy to reduce traffic delays and improve safety on motorways.
Because motorway drivers approaching junctions will be better informed about off-motorway destinations, lane discipline will be improved well in advance of junction exits and the risk of drivers making late manoeuvring decisions will be reduced.
