A40 Denham Viaduct Strengthening and Parapet Replacement
The Project
The A40 Denham Viaduct is located between J1 of the M40 and Swakely's Roundabout to the south in Uxbridge and carries the A40 over the River Fray and surrounding floodplains.
We have replaced the existing brickwork parapets to bring them up to current standards and strengthened the bridge deck from below to allow abnormal loads to use the A40 in both directions over the structure. This will eliminate congestion on the local diversion route previously used by abnormal load vehicles too heavy to use this section of the A40.
Innovative carbon fibre plate bonding techniques have been used to strengthen the deck, reducing construction waste and the duration of the works.
