The Project

Where?

The scheme is located on the Southbound carriageway of the M6 from 2.5km (1.5m) east of Junction 6 at Gravelly Hill to Junction 5 at Castle Bromwich.

When?

The work started on Tuesday 27th May and was completed on 13 August 2008.

What did we do?

We replaced the existing surface down to the waterproofing material and replaced it with a new, quieter, surfacing layer. We also replaced the bridge joints and put in an improved drainage system to reduce damage to the carriageway deck structure.

Why did we need to do this work ?

Due to wear and tear, the surface had come to the end of its serviceable life and needed replacing. The waterproofing and drainage of the motorway needed to be repaired to ensure that water does not seep down into the concrete structure supporting the viaduct.
