The Project

We are altering 19 of the lay-bys on the A14 between Bythorn (Junc 15) and Bar Hill (Junc 29), including two on the A14 spur between Huntingdon and Alconbury, all in the county of Cambridgeshire.

Eight of the lay-bys are being upgraded to make them safer, 10 are being converted to emergency use only and one is being closed permanently.

The lay-bys do not meet current standards and have a poor accident record, particularly with slow moving vehicles entering and exiting from them.

The works started on Monday 10 March 2008 and will take approximately two months to complete.

The laybys near Bar Hill will be improved first and work will progress west along the A14 with the final lay-bys near Bythorn being completed in early May.

All the work will be carried out overnight but the lay-bys being worked on will remain closed 24 hours a day.

There will be occasional overnight lane closures but we do not expect these works to adversely affect traffic using the A14.
