The Project
Essential maintenance work to replace defective expansion joints on the South Bridge, which carries the A42 southbound carriageway over the M1 at J23A, was completed on the 4 April 2008. The main carriageway joints were successfully installed in March prior to the Easter holiday, with the final phase of verge replacement work being completed at the beginning of April. All work was carried out overnight when the road was less busy, to limit delays to drivers. The new joints will benefit road users by providing a safer and smoother ride quality over the bridge.
