The Project

The A40/A49 Wilton Roundabout, is near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire.

We will be widening and realigning the approaches to the roundabout to make using the roundabout easier and safer. The footpaths around the roundabout will also be widened to enable better access for pedestrians. Anti-skid surfacing will be laid on the A40 and A49 approaches to the roundabout to reduce the risk of skidding when braking. The signing around the roundabout will also be improved, with pedestrian warning signs introduced and the existing chevron signs replaced with new high-visibility chevron signs. There will also be new lane markings put on the roundabout to improve lane discipline.

Work is due to start on 22nd September 2008 and last for approximately 10 weeks.

Key Benefits for Public

The realigning of the A40 roundabout approaches and laying of high-friction surfacing will improve the safety of the roundabout. The improved road layout will reduce the speed of vehicles entering the roundabout and reduce the risk of accident. The new pedestrian warning signs, lane markings and high-visibility chevron signs will also help to increase the safety of the roundabout.

Limits of Work

This work may cause congestion on the A40/A49 approaches to the roundabout, due to restrictions placed on traffic through the traffic management. There may also be times when access to the BP garage or Wilton Road is affected.
