The Project
Work on the £65.05m scheme to improve Junction 11 of the M4 began in April 2008 and is expected to be completed during the summer of 2010.
The scheme has been developed jointly with the Highways Agency, Reading Borough Council and Wokingham Borough Council. Reading Borough Council is the lead authority and agreements have been made for them to construct the works on behalf of all the relevant parties.
Improvements to Junction 11 will include a new four-lane motorway junction with two road bridges around the outside of the existing junction. The existing motorway bridges will be converted to become priority routes for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists.
Two new junctions south of the M4 at Mereoak (Three Mile Cross) will also be constructed as part of the scheme.
The existing motorway junction will remain open throughout the works in order minimise disruption.
