Average Speed Cameras
Cameras have been installed on the QEII Bridge southbound. This has been planned as part of the revision to the charges. The cameras are not yet in use. Our research has shown that a significant number of vehicles exceed the 50mph speed limit especially overnight. A personal injury accident cluster has also been identified on the bridge brow.
Enforcement will be carried out by Essex Police. There are four narrow lanes on the bridge with no hard shoulder and forward visibility is restricted by the bridge brow. Speeding drivers have been involved in collisions and greatly increase the risk to themselves and others. We anticipate the benefits to a more consistent traffic flow, fewer incidents and a reduced risk to the safety of booth staff.
