Progress

We have made a lot of progress on the whole scheme since work started on its construction in October 2006. This has been aided by the recent dry weather that followed a bad winter.

Progress has been particularly good in the Woodbank area with the completion of the new eastbound carriageway. Traffic will be allowed to use the new carriageway in early August allowing eastbound traffic to bypass the traffic signals at Woodbank Junction.

In order to tie-in the new road it will be necessary to close the eastbound carriageway as it passes through the Deeside Park Junction for a short time. This closure will take place from the evening of Friday 8 August with all traffic diverted up the slip road of the interchange and down the other side.

This closure will be removed for the traffic travelling on eastbound towards the M56 and Ellesmere Port on Sunday 10 August. It is not possible to complete the link between the new dual carriageway and the northbound A550 at the same time meaning the diversion will have to remain in place for traffic wishing to continue on the A550 to the north of Woodbank Junction. It is anticipated that this diversion will remain in place for approximately six weeks.

To assist with the flow of additional traffic over Deeside Park Junction it is proposed to place temporary traffic signals at the top of the northbound off slip.

Work is continuing at Lodge Lane Bridge with the earthworks and road pavement substantially complete on both the north and south side of the A5117. Because of this work, the route through Lodge Lane for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians has been closed. This is because of the potential for conflict between construction vehicles and the public and the inherent safety implications. It is hoped to re-open the route through Lodge Lane for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in September.

At the M56 end or eastern end of the scheme, work has continued to the mainline carriageway through the Parkgate cutting and the completion of the eastbound slip road onto the M56 from Dunkirk roundabout which will be opened from 5 August 2008.

The bridge that will carry the A540 over the A5117 is substantially complete and open to traffic. Works continue to progress on completing the mainline carriageway through the cutting. The temporary diversion of traffic travelling westbound on the A5117 as it approaches the A540 Parkgate Road roundabout will continue to remain in place whilst work continues on completing the new road under the new Parkgate Road bridge.

Access to Powey Lane will be closed at the western end for a three day period in early August 2008 with the access and egress being maintained at the eastern end of the lane.

We ask that drivers please be patient and take extra care during these temporary arrangements. We do expect some disruption in the area. We will be doing everything we can to minimise delays, however you are advised to seek an alternative route, avoid peak travel times and allow additional time for your journey.

Traffic heading westbound for Queensferry and the North Wales coast will continue to use the roads as they are set out at present.

There is a 40mph speed limit in force through the roadworks for the safety of the travelling public and to protect the workforce.
