Weekly Traffic Management including Local Roads

  • The Northbound exit and Southbound entry slip roads at M40/J15 have traffic management in place to allow construction of the slip road widening. Traffic management is also in place on the Northbound entry and Southbound exit slips dedicated continuous free flow lanes to be completed. A 50mph speed limit is in force. Over the next few weeks the alignment on these roads will change and have varying traffic management implemented to allow surfacing and final tie in. Currently the dedicated lane (not signal controlled and is a continual free flow) to the Southbound exit slip is open during peak times 06.00hrs to 10.30hrs and 15.30hrs to 20.00hrs which will help traffic flow. The Northbound entry slip should have its dedicated continuous free flow lane open in the next two weeks. It is intended to open both these slips completely by Easter.
  • A 40mph speed restriction is in place on the A46 Northbound and Southbound including the new Bypass from approx 1500m south to 2500m North of J15. Also for approx 600m SE towards Barford and NE towards Warwick along the A429 from J15. The J15 roundabout is also reduced to 40mph (as it will be in the final state when work is completed). This speed reduction is in place 24/7 for the safety of the travelling public and workforce.
  • Watery lane, Vicarage lane and the un-named track that adjoins the old A46 Southbound alignment are closed at the junction with the A46 other than for residential access via the A429 to until April 2010 to allow de-trunking and re-modeling. Signs advising local traffic are in place. Access will be maintained for residents only and not through traffic.
  • The B4463 is open, but is running on a temporary surface at present at its junction with the New Sherbourne roundabout. This road will close again around early April, but this will be advertised nearer the time.

Note

The B4463 will need to be closed again around early April 2010 to allow the final alignment to be made and for safety during major earth moving operations.
Wellesbourne Market each Saturday mornings does mean that the A46/M40 J15 is busy and so it is predicted that unavoidable weekend works may make this congestion seem worse.

There continues to be a need for lane closures and some possible contra flows on the A46 in early 2010, but these will be kept to a minimum.

Works to the J15 roundabout will continue through to July 2010 and will largely be at night where lane closures are required to avoid congestion and delays. Temporary road surfaces, no road markings and temporary alignment which will be continually changing will be apparent and so extra care should be taken.

Bank holidays and Major event dates will be avoided.

Advanced warning signs are erected on site and remote from site on approach routes to warn of the works, contra flows and closures etc. Where possible, overhead and roadside Variable Message Signs on the road network will also advise of the forthcoming works.
