Scheme Progress
What has happened so far
We have completed the removal of topsoil within the site boundary. We have also made progress building the embankment to the North of the M40 using soil from local sources adjacent to the site.
During August construction started on the new Sherbourne Brook Bridge and the underpasses which will be situated under the new Watery Lane roundabout. Narrow lanes with a 50 mph speed limit were installed on the A46 Warwick Bypass southbound carriageway; this has been done to protect traffic from a nearby excavation. This traffic management was in place over the Bank Holiday weekend without incident.
On the night of Saturday 2 August 2008 through to the morning of Sunday 3 August 2008, Morrison Construction demolished Budbrooke Accommodation Bridge. This successful operation started at 6 pm and was completed ahead of schedule at 9:30 am, allowing the A46 to be reopened to traffic two and a half hours earlier than planned, resulting in minimal disruption to traffic.
What are we doing next?
Over the next three months we will:
- Continue construction of large embankments on both sides of the M40.
- Start construction of the new bridge over the M40; and the Chasefield bridge near Chase Meadows.
- Continue building Sherbourne Brook bridge and the underpasses beneath the new Watery Lane roundabout.
- Fill the remaining gap in the existing noise bund next to Chase Meadows. (Deliveries of these materials will be made through the Chase Meadows housing estate and Morrison's will advise those living in affected streets when deliveries will be taking place.)
Traffic Management will be placed on the M40 to enable construction of the new bridge. This will maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction by using hardshoulder running and narrow lanes. This traffic management will be in place for the next year. A 50mph speed limit will be enforced using average speed cameras to further improve the safety of the work force and traffic during these works.
