A12 Resurfacing Capel St Mary to Stratford St Mary
A12 Resurfacing Capel St Mary to Stratford St Mary
The Project
Works on this road renewals scheme began in November 2008 and were completed in January 2009. Small sections of the road were resurfaced at a time, to allow all works to be completed during the night so as to keep disruption to traffic at a minimum.
Phase One - Stratford St Mary Northbound
In order to resurface the stretch of A12 just north of Stratford St Mary it was necessary to impliment a convoy system of traffic management to ensure that works could be undertaken safely. To allow this convoy system to commence, traffic was diverted through the village. This was due to the substandard nature of the junction to the north of Stratford St Mary, which would not have given sufficient space for HGVs and other larger vehicles to turn. This element of the works is now complete.
Phase Two - Capel St Mary Southbound
A convoy system was in place to guide traffic through the works on the southbound carriageway near Capel St Mary. Traffic was diverted off the A12 at the Capel St Mary junction, before rejoining using the off-slip of the same junction.
Phase Three - Stratford St Mary Southbound
As with the northbound stretch of the A12 at Stratford St Mary it was necessary to divert traffic through the village. During these works there was a total closure of the A12 southbound which did not require the use of a convoy system as traffic could simply bypass the closure and rejoin the carriageway south of the village.
