The Project
The closures are needed to carry out routine maintenance. All closures are to be carried out between 8.00 pm and 6.00am each night and all works will be carried out under a full diversionary twin bore closure, with vehicles being diverted along the A270 and A293.
Works are carried out within both bores simultaneously and it is not possible for the tunnel to remain open throughout this time due to safety implications, as the works involve the use of machinery that spans both lanes of each bore.
It may also be necessary to have an eastbound lane 1 closure on the Monday night after each tunnel maintenance closure to collect plant if this was not possible during the actual tunnel closure.
Closure dates are as follows:
- January - Friday 13 and Saturday 14
- February - Friday 17 and Saturday 18
- March - Friday 16 and Saturday 17
- April - Friday 13 and Saturday 14
- May - Friday 18 and Saturday 19
- June - Friday 15 and Saturday 16
- July - Friday 13 and Saturday 14
- September - Friday 21 and Saturday 22
- October - Friday 12 and Saturday 13
- November - Friday 16 and Saturday 17
- December - Friday 14 and Saturday 15
