The Project
As part of the scheme, existing electronic lane control signals have been upgraded together with modern information signs.
The scheme has extended the current variable speed limit control operating between J10 and J16, on both carriageways.
Drivers will benefit from improved journey reliability, safer driving conditions and reduced driver stress. The system is also beneficial to the environment with reduced levels of vehicle emissions. Estimated completion is for the end of 2011.
Work is now complete and some minor traffic management will be utilised for commissioning and technology tuning purposes. The signals at present display advisory speed limits; once the institutional process is complete the signals will change to "variable mandatory speed limits" (signal displays Red Ring). This is expected for Spring 2012.
