The Project
The laybys on the A56 between the M66 at Edenfield and the M65 at Hapton did not meet current standards in terms of design, signing and visibility. Work to address this was completed in April 2010.
Traffic Management
The scheme involved bringing two of the laybys up to standard, closing two and converting one to emergency use only. These works have now been completed.
- Northbound layby 1 (see plan) is now reopened, but for emergency use only.
- Northbound layby 3 has now been upgraded and reopened.
- Southbound layby 6 has now been upgraded and reopened.
- Northbound layby 6 has been closed permanently.
- Southbound layby 1 has been closed permanently.
