Traffic Management

A46 between the A606 Melton Road and Farndon Roundabout, Newark
Traffic is currently running on sections of the new carriageways. Over the coming months there will be further changes in road layout utilising more of the new road.
Between Widmerpool and Owthorpe -
- Northbound and southbound A46 traffic is running on the new A46 dual carriageway. Speed restrictions in place
- Northbound traffic is using a single lane. Southbound traffic is using both lanes except for a short length of single lane running near Widmerpool junction.
- At Widmerpool the southbound on-slip will be closed from the early hours of Monday 16 January 2012 for approximately 6 weeks. See Temporary closures below for diversion route.
Between Owthorpe and Bingham (A52) junction
- Traffic is running on the full 70mph dual carriageway for a 3.5 mile section of the new road between Owthorpe and Car Colstion.
Between Bingham (A52) junction and Car Colston
- Traffic is running on the new A46 dual carriageway between Owthorpe and Car Colston. A46 through traffic no longer uses either of the two Saxondale roundabouts or the A6097 Margidunum roundabout.
- Restrictions are in place on the link between the old and the new roundabouts at Saxondale (A52/A46 junction).
Between Car Colston and Flintham
- Traffic is now using both the northbound and southbound carriageways. Single lane running and speed restrictions are in operation on both carriageways.
Between Flintham and Farndon
- Traffic is now using both the northbound and southbound carriageway of the new A46. Single lane running and speed restrictions are in operation.
- A short section of dual carriageway is in operation between Lodge Lane and Farndon Roundabout in a northbound direction only.
- For a period of approximately 8 weeks, traffic will not be able to access the old A46 from Lodge Lane, Elston . Access is available to both the northbound and southbound carriageways of the new A46.
Saxondale Island - A52/A46
- A 40 mph speed restriction remains in place along the A52 either side of the A46.
- A52 traffic is using the old and new roundabouts and the link road between them.
- From 18 January 2012 works will commence to re-configure the section of the link near the old roundabout. Traffic is running in single lanes in each direction. Traffic should follow the signs. This essential works is due to be completed by the end of March.
Temporary Closures
- At Widmerpool the southbound on-slip will be closed from the early hours of Monday 16 January for approximately 6 weeks. Traffic intending to use this slip road will be diverted via the northbound on-slip north to Owthorpe junction to leave northbound carriageway and then join the southbound carriageway south to continue their journey.
- Colston Road and Colston Gate Cotgrave - Will be closed from mid March 2011 until spring 2012. Once re-opened there will be no direct access onto the A46.
- Cropwell Road - closed until early 2012 to allow the new underbridge and A46 to be constructed.
- Radcliffe Road - closed until early 2012 to allow the new underbridge and A46 to be constructed. A signed diversion route is in place via Hardigate Road.
- Stragglethorpe junction - From Wednesday 3 November northbound entry and exit slip roads are closed for four weeks to allow for a temporary section of road to be re-constructed. Signed diversions will be in place.
- East Bridgford - from 25 November 2011 to April 2012 the southbound slip road from the new A46 onto the old A46 at Tenman Lane will be closed to allow the new roundabout to be built. Access to and from Tenman Lane will be possible frm the A6097 but road users will not be able to head north on the old A46. A signed diversion will be in place via Saxondale .
Speed Restrictions
40mph speed restrictions to all side roads on approaches to A46 works areas.- 40mph speed restriction is in place from the junction with the A606 to Saxondale roundabout (junction with the A52) and then from north of East Bridgford to East Stoke.
- 40mph speed restriction remains in place along the A52 either side of the A46.
Temporary Traffic Lights and Lane Restrictions
- Various night time temporary traffic lights due to utility diversion work ongoing until late 2011.
Plant Crossing
A plant crossing is in operation on A606 Melton Road, Widmerpool.
