The Project
Additional Motorway Incident Detection & Automatic Signalling (MIDAS) equipment has been installed on the eastbound M602 between junctions 2 & 3.
The system operates by using electronic sensors in the carriageway which detect slow-moving and stationary traffic and trigger the electronic message signs displayed on the overhead gantries to warn drivers of traffic queues ahead. This reduces speeds on the approach to the queue and so improves road safety.
Work started on Monday 12th October 2009 and was completed during 2010.
The scheme is now complete and all traffic management removed from the network.
