M5 Hard Shoulder Strengthening
The Project
In January 2010, the Highways Agency carried out hard shoulder strengthening works on a section of the M5 in Worcestershire.
The hard shoulder strengthening took place along M5 between Junctions 4a and 5 beginning mid January, with completion on 30th April 2010.
The hard shoulders on motoways were originally constructed to a different standard to the main carriageways and were in need of restructuring and upgrading. In the future they may be used as running lanes.
