The Project

The Highways Agency has completed two schemes on the A14 in Cambridgeshire. The programme for both schemes was integrated to share the traffic management where possible and to take maximum advantage of the road closures that were needed.

A14 Huntingdon Railway Viaduct

Work involved the replacement of the bridge joints and the resurfacing of the Viaduct which crosses the East Coast Main Railway Line between A14 Junction 23 (Spittals interchange) and Junction 24 (Godmanchester).

These roadworks commenced on Friday 15 January 2010 and required the complete weekend closure of the A14, in one direction at a time, for a period of 7 weekends.  The final weekend closure was 19 - 21 March 2010.

A14 Alconbury to Fen Drayton Repair Work

At the same time as the Viaduct work took place, we took the opportunity to carry out repairs and resurfacing to the worn out carriageway of the A14 at several locations between Alconbury and Fen Drayton.
