The Project

This scheme involved the replacement of 3 miles of life expired steel safety fence in the central reservation of the M6 in Cumbria between Junctions 40 and 41 and was completed on 21st February 2010.

The previous steel barrier had reached the end of its design life and needed to be replaced. The new concrete barrier will provide enhanced protection against crossover incidents and will require much less maintenance; reducing the need for operatives to work in the middle of the motorway. Overall, it represents a significant improvement in safety.
