The Project Control Framework

This framework sets out how we, together with the Department for Transport, manage and deliver major road improvement projects.

Impact on your journey

On this page you will find out more information about the impact this project will have on your journey. This includes details of any roadworks and how we will manage traffic through the project.

Will there be roadworks?

There will be roadworks throughout the life of the scheme.

How will you manage traffic?

There will be lane and overnight carriageway closures during the scheme. Where lane closures are required we will ensure that at least one lane is running in each direction, and that scheduled closures avoid peak traffic times.

Closure Update May 2012

Friday 18 May

There will be an overnight closures on the M5 Southbound on Friday 18 May, to undertake emergency repairs to carriageway joints.

The closure will take place at M5 Junction 15 Almondsbury Interchange (M5 South to M4 East Link Road) to M5 Junction 16 Southbound exit slip road (Filton), from 2200hrs to 0600hrs the following morning.

Traffic will be diverted using the following route: Traffic travelling South on the M5 will be diverted at junction 15 (Almondsbury Interchange) onto the M4 Westbound carriageway, continue to junction 22 then follow the Eastbound carriageway back to the Almondsbury Interchange and take the M4 East to M5 South connector. They will then follow diversion route signs to rejoin the M5 Southbound carriageway at junction 16.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey if travelling during this time, and to follow the clearly signed diversion route.

Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 May

There will be a series of overnight carriageway closures on the M4 to allow the removal of existing gantries so work can continue on the scheme:

  • M4 Eastbound and Westbound will be closed between Junction 20 (Almondsbury) and Junction 19 (Hambrook) between 10pm and 6am on the following dates.
    • Tuesday 29 May
    • Wednesday 30 May
    • Thursday 31 May

Will there be diversions?

Eastbound closure

  • At Junction 20, diverted traffic will exit the M4 to travel south to M5 junction 16. Diverted traffic will leave the motorway and travel east on the A38 / A4174 Ring Road to M32 Junction 1. Diverted traffic will join the M32 to travel north to M4 junction 19 to rejoin the M4 to travel east

Westbound closure

  • At Junction 19, diverted traffic will leave the M4 to travel south on the M32 to Junction 1. Diverted traffic will join the A4174 /A38 ring Road to travel west to M5 Junction 16. Diverted traffic will join the M5 North to M4 West Link Road to rejoin the M4 to travel west.
