Route Description

A30 Penzance to Exeter

Route description

The A30 between Penzance and Exeter is approximately 177km (110 miles) long. About two-thirds of the route is in Cornwall one-third in Devon. The road is part of the Core Network and is the strategic route corridor linking the South West from Exeter. The standard of the road varies throughout its' length and can be split into 13 distinct sections as follows: -

Section 1 - Chy-an-Mor to Newtown
Dual carriageway.

Section 2 - Newtown to St Erth
Single carriageway and is subject to varying speed restrictions between 40 and 60 mph.

Section 3 - St Erth to Camborne
Single carriageway with hardstrips and climbing lanes.

Section 4 - Camborne to Chiverton Cross
Dual carriageway.

Section 5 - Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross
Single carriageway with hardstrips and climbing lanes.

Section 6 - Carland Cross to Indian Queens
Dual carriageway.

Section 7 - Indian Queens to Innis Downs
Single carriageway with vertical and horizontal alignment constraints.

Section 8 - Innis Downs to Higher Carblake
Dual carriageway.

Section 9 - Higher Carblake to Temple
Single carriageway with overtaking restrictions and climbing lanes.

Section 10 - Temple to Launceston
Dual carriageway.

Section 11 - Launceston to Okehampton
Dual carriageway.

Section 12 - Okehampton to Alphington
Dual carriageway.

Section 13 - Alphington to M5
Dual carriageway.
