Environmental Study

A417 Cowley to Brockworth Bypass Improvement

Study Area

The area all lies within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). A major topographic feature is the important Cotswolds scarp. The change in height in the area is 200m which imposes technical restrictions on the improvement options that may be available.

In the study area there are several Sites of Special Scientific Interest protected for their ecological value, as well as ancient semi-natural woodlands. The area is also important for its archaeology including Scheduled Monuments at Crickley Hill and Barrow Wake, and the Conservation Area at Brimpsfield
