The Project

The Skew Railway Bridge improvement scheme will improve the safety of the bridge for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and rail users. The works consist of two new separate cycle/footbridges, one on either side of the existing bridge, which provide wider footways, cycleways and much stronger parapets. The majority of the work being carried out is not visible from the roadside and much has had to be done at night when the trains have stopped running.

Work commenced in June 2003 and was expected to last for 45 weeks, but the scheme has been subject to delays caused by poor ground conditions and adverse weather. However, all critical structural operations have now been completed and it is intended that the scheme will finish before the end of September 2004. The details of the full road closures are advertised on site and can be obtained by calling 08457 504030.
