Background Information

A34 Peartree to Weston Major Maintenance Scheme

Background Information

What is planned?

The A34 requires major maintenance work to ensure the road remains safe and serviceable for road users.

A small number of concrete sections will be replaced and repaired. The entire length will then be overlayed with asphalt to provide a smoother, quieter surface.

This section of the A34 was built 15 years ago and major maintenance needs to be carried out now.

The work will take place along a five mile stretch between the A44 Peartree Interchange and the B430 near Weston-on-the-Green.

The works are planned in four phases to take 25 weeks from September 2005.

The works

Major maintenance works will be carried out to the following:

  • the road surface
  • the safety fencing
  • the road drainage system

Carriageway work

The concrete works are planned to take place over five to eight weekends. Lane closures are required so that the concrete sections can be replaced and to give the new surface time to set before traffic is allowed to use the carriageway again.

The concrete repair work is being carried out at weekends when traffic flows are lower.

A new quieter surface will be laid on the entire length of the road from Peartree Interchange to Weston-on-the-Green.

New safety fencing

The central reserve and verge safety fence will be replaced with new fencing.

Drainage repairs

Extensive drainage repairs will be carried out.

Noise levels

To minimise congestion and delays, most of the works are being carried out overnight. We apologise for any disturbance or disruption this may cause local residents as the works progress.

The work will be planned and managed to keep noise down to an acceptable level.

Local residents and vehicle users should experience a noticeable reduction in traffic noise levels once work is complete.
