- Route Management Strategies

The Project
This Route Management Strategy covers a 1km length of the A40, from its boundary with the Greater London Authority (GLA), to the M40 motorway at Junction 1; and the 145km long M40, from Junction 1 to Junction 3a of the M42.
The M40 between Junctions 1 and 4 was originally constructed as a dual 3-lane motorway during the late 1960s and early 1970s to provide bypasses to the Buckinghamshire towns of Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield, and High Wycombe. Junction 1a was added to the original motorway in 1986 connecting to the adjacent sections of the M25.
