Communications Upgrade

M27 Junctions 9 to 12 - Motorway Communications Upgrade

M27 JUNCTIONS 9 TO 12 - MOTORWAY COMMUNICATIONS UPGRADE

The cable network on the M27 has not been upgraded since the motorway was built and is now reaching the end of its useful life. Communications systems are essential for the safe and smooth running of the motorway in that they operate emergency telephones, variable message signs and CCTV cameras.

The replacement system will include an incident detection facility which will not only be able to detect queuing traffic but will also automatically activate signals to warn approaching drivers of the hazard. A major part of the upgrade will be the installation of variable message signs, CCTV cameras and new emergency telephones.

The works will start on Monday 17th February, will be carried out in phases and should be completed by the end of February 2004. To minimise disruption the majority of the works will be undertaken at night with lane closures as required. Daytime working will be restricted to hardshoulder closures with lane closures only as necessary.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause you and thank you for your co-operation.

Should you have any queries regarding the works please phone the Highways Agency Information Line on 08457 50 40 30.
