The Project

The works are due to commence on 25 October 2004 and will involve the construction of pedestrian footbridge, removal of existing crossing and the installation of 1.8m guardrail in central reserve, thus providing a safer crossing facility of A27.

To keep traffic delays to a minimum, work affecting road users will be carried out during off-peak hours. Throughout the scheme, lane closures will be in operation and it will be necessary to close the A27 Upper Brighton Road over a weekend to install the bridge and remove the existing crossing. During the closure, a fully signed diversion route will be in place.

Westbound traffic will be diverted left onto the A2025 Grinstead Lane, right on to the A259 Brighton Road, right on to Western Road continuing on to Busticle Lane, before turning left back to the A27 Upper Brighton Road.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted right on to Busticle Lane continuing on to Western road, left on to the A259 Brighton Road, left on to A2025 Grinstead Lane, before turning right to re-join the A27 Upper Brighton Road.
